Specialist programs
Physical Education (PE)
Health and Physical Education enables students to develop skills, understanding and willingness to positively influence the health and wellbeing of themselves and their communities. We offer P.E. to all students R- 6. Specialist teachers track student development and provide feedback on what students are doing well and where they can improve.
Swimming and water safety lessons for reception – year 4 students and the Aquatics program for year 5 & 6 students are scheduled each year. The swimming programme is conducted at Noarlunga Leisure Centre and the Aquatics Program is held at Port Noarlunga. Students regularly take part in sporting clinics including tennis, lawn bowls, table tennis, netball, golf, soccer and gymnastics.
Flaxmill students are encouraged to participate in:
- SA School Sports (SAPSASA) football, netball, hockey, softball, swimming and tennis.
- Inter- school events – cross country, athletics, netball and basketball.
- Community programs – Auskick and Sporting Community Clubs.
Languages - French
We offer French to all year levels R-6.
Students are immersed in learning the language and culture. An annual French day is held to celebrate student achievement and to experience French food and activities.
STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics
STEM is a strong priority for Flaxmill School P-6. Our STEM program promotes critical thinking, innovation and exploration of future careers and pathways in STEM.
STEM highlights have included – Robogals – Women in STEM in conjunction with University of Adelaide, Andy Thomas Space Foundation, Makers Empire – 3 D printing and Questacon – The National Science and Technology Centre and Robotics.
We have dedicated STEM learning areas to provide students with the technology and tools to investigate, discover and develop a culture of problem solving and innovation.
Nature play
The intention of the nature, outdoor and environmental learning program at Flaxmill P-6 is for students to develop a greater understanding, appreciation and enthusiasm for our natural world.
Nature play is unique in that it can not only allow students to have a break from the 4 walls of a classroom, but also offer experimental learning within the school grounds and broader community.
